Pakistan import & tax update — September 2026

The most significant change is that commercial import of used vehicles is now allowed under the updated regime. The Federal Board of Revenue lists SRO 1065(I)/2026 for regulatory duty on commercial vehicle imports. The earlier 40% additional regulatory duty was scheduled to step down after June 2026, so any landed-cost calculation should use the FY 2026–27 framework rather than older 2025 figures.

For personal imports, Personal Baggage was removed in January 2026. The Gift and Transfer of Residence schemes remain, and the eligibility period was increased to 850 days. Vehicles imported under Gift or Transfer of Residence are non-transferable for one year.

From 1 July 2026 the sales-tax concession on hybrids expired and 25% sales tax became applicable to hybrid imports and local supplies, so do not price a 2026 hybrid import using older tax assumptions.

Which engine size is cheapest to import?

FBR's published fixed duty/tax benchmark for eligible Asian-make used vehicles under the personal schemes is set by engine size, with 1% depreciation per month based on the age of the vehicle.

Engine sizeFBR duty / tax benchmark
    Up to 800ccUS$4,800
    801 – 1000ccUS$6,000
    1001 – 1300ccUS$13,200
    1301 – 1500ccUS$18,590
    1501 – 1600ccUS$22,550
    1601 – 1800ccUS$27,940

The jump from 800cc to the 1001–1300cc band is very large, so if your goal is the lowest landed cost, 660cc Japanese kei cars are the segment to focus on.

    Low-cost 660cc models worth checking

    • Daihatsu Mira 660cc
    • Nissan Dayz 660cc
    • Suzuki Alto (JDM) 660cc
    • Daihatsu Move 660cc
    • Mitsubishi eK Wagon 660cc
    • Honda N-WGN 660cc

The Mira, Dayz and Alto are the most worthwhile to investigate because the Pakistan resale market for them is larger. As an indication, September 2026 Japanese auction data shows Nissan Dayz examples around ¥831,000 – ¥1.31m depending on variant and condition, while a recently imported 2023 Nissan Dayz X 660cc was advertised in Pakistan at roughly Rs 39 lakh after import and dealer costs.

For the lowest total cost we would start with a 2022–2024 Daihatsu Mira 660cc, Nissan Dayz 660cc or Mitsubishi eK Wagon 660cc, then compare the Japan auction price plus freight plus the current customs assessment.

Tell us your budget — 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 lakh PKR — and we will work out the car price, shipping, customs and taxes and the approximate total landed Pakistan price for 5–10 models at September 2026 rates.

Duty and tax figures are published by the Federal Board of Revenue and the Ministry of Commerce and are subject to change. Final assessment is made by Pakistan Customs at the time of clearance.
