All Gulf countries follow GSO (Gulf Standardisation Organisation) type-approval and most enforce a maximum vehicle age (commonly 5 years for personal import in the UAE, 5 years in KSA, 5 years in Qatar, with classic-car exemptions over 25 years).

Key pre-shipment items we coordinate:

- GCC specification check. Cooling, cabin filtration, transmission tuning and tyre rating for desert use.
• Mowasafat / SASO COC for Saudi Arabia.
• VIN and chassis verification matching the V5C and bill of lading.
• Asbestos and modified parts declaration where applicable.
• Right-hand drive declaration. RHD is legal for personal use in UAE, Oman and Bahrain but is restricted in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

- UAE customs duty — 5% of CIF value (CIF = vehicle value + insurance + freight)
• VAT — 5% on CIF + duty
• Port handling at Jebel Ali — AED 600 to 1,500

• Number plates — AED 200 to 400

- Book early in the season. Demand peaks September to March as expat moves and luxury-car shipments cluster around the cooler months.
• Insure the personal effects. Marine cover on the vehicle is automatic; personal-effects cover is a small add-on.
• Plan for ramadan and national holidays. UAE customs throughput slows during Ramadan, KSA during Hajj.
• Use the consolidation date as your fixed point. Confirm both the cut-off date in the UK and the planned vessel ETA.
• Decide on RHD up front. RHD is a hard no for KSA and Kuwait registration, soft yes for UAE, Oman and Bahrain.
