What if I lose the V5C?

Apply for a duplicate V5C using DVLA Form V62 before exporting. Allow 6 weeks.

Do I need to MOT the car before export?

No — DVLA does not require a valid MOT for the export slip. The destination country may have its own roadworthy requirement (Australia, NZ, South Africa). UK MOT does not satisfy foreign equivalents.

What if I have a personalised plate?

Retain the plate before export using DVLA Form V317 (£80 retention fee). Transfer the vehicle to an age-related plate first, then submit the V5C export slip. Doing it the other way round can lose the plate permanently.
