Personal Effects Inside Your Vehicle: What You Can and Can't Pack

Personal effects in a shipped car — which countries allow what, weight limits, insurance, and how to declare items so customs doesn't refuse entry.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship my whole house in the car?

No. The car is not a removal van. For full household relocations, ship the car separately and use a proper household-goods container alongside. We arrange both as a coordinated move where requested.

Why does RORO ban personal effects?

RORO decks are inspected for fire and security risk on every loading. Personal-effects boxes can't be inspected without delaying the whole sailing. RORO lines simply refuse all in-car cargo and confiscate anything found.

What happens if customs find undeclared items?

At best, seizure with no fine. At worst, the whole car is held, the importer is fined (typically £200-£800), and the personal effects are destroyed. Always declare.
