Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to ship a car from the UK to Jamaica?

Vessels sail from Felixstowe on a regular rotation; door-to-port transit is typically 18–24 days. Add 5–10 working days each end for UK collection and destination clearance.

Is RORO available to Jamaica?

Not currently — UK to Jamaica is container only. We book through shared 20ft and dedicated containers from Felixstowe.

What duties will I pay in Jamaica?

20–30% duty + 16.5% GCT + 25–30% SCT (engine-size tiered). Duties are paid by the importer at the destination port.

Is insurance included?

All quotes include UK port handling and the Bill of Lading. Marine transit insurance at 1.5–2% of vehicle value is offered separately on every quote.

Why is there no RORO to Jamaica?

Carrier economics. The volume of UK-origin vehicle traffic to Jamaica does not justify a dedicated RORO call. All vehicles move on container vessels via Kingston.

Can I ship a 7-year-old car to Jamaica?

Not as a private passenger car under standard import rules. Exceptions exist for returning residents under the Returning Residents scheme, which extends the age limit to 10 years for one duty-free vehicle.

How long does clearance take at Kingston?

5–10 working days with a competent broker and complete paperwork. JCA queries on valuation are common and can extend this to 14–21 days.
